Rock Hill Dentist

Before becoming a dentist, I spent my childhood growing up on a dairy farm in Tifton, Georgia. I moved to Rock Hill when I was 18 years old to attend Winthrop University. I graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1989 with a B.S. in Biology. I attended the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) College of Dental Medicine and graduated as First Honor graduate (class rank #1) in 1993.

During dental school, I received the United States Air Force Senior Dental Student Scholarship. Upon graduation, I reported to David Grant Medical Center at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, CA to receive my post-graduate training in “Advanced Education in General Dentistry “(AEGD). Here I received intense training in all areas of general dentistry to include implants, I.V. sedation, removal of impacted wisdom teeth, dentures, partial dentures, crowns, bridges, root canals, pediatric dentistry, orthodontics, and hospital dentistry. I completed my 3 years of service as a General Dentist in the USAF at Charleston Air Force Base in Charleston, SC.

I moved back to Rock Hill in 1996 to join Dr. George Hook to form Willis and Hook Dental Associates. In 2011, Dr. Mark Espinal joined the practice to form Carolinas Center for Advanced Dentistry. I have always been very active in the community and my professional associations. Currently, I serve as Team Dentist for Winthrop University Athletics and Immediate Past-President for the South Carolina Academy of General Dentistry.

Academy of General Dentistry MasterOne of my greatest professional endeavors is my commitment to continuing dental education. I recently received my Mastership award from the Academy of General Dentistry. The Mastership award is the highest honor available at the Academy of General Dentistry and one of the most respected designations within the profession (less than 1% of general dentists have this designation). To accomplish this goal, I had to complete over 1,100 hours of continuing dental education in 16 different subject categories.

I’m also a proud member of the following organizations:

  • American Dental Association
  • South Carolina Dental Association
  • Tri-County Dental Association
  • South Charlotte Dental Study Club
  • Academy of General Dentistry
  • South Carolina Academy of General Dentistry
  • Pierre Fauchard Dental Honor Society
  • Academy for Sports Dentistry

My wife, Kim, and I enjoy spending time together exercising, traveling, and watching the kids (Grant, Jessica, and Lauren) grow and participate in their activities; volleyball, soccer, guitar and gymnastics.

As a family, we enjoy walking and bicycling in the neighborhood, taking family trips, and going to the kids sporting events. We attend First Baptist Church of Rock Hill and recently took our first Dental Mission trip to Ecuador. I look forward to working with you and your family to achieve and maintain your dental health.
